All about this fragrance
Vibe check
Think of stepping from dense foliage into a concrete courtyard: leafy freshness meets a harder mineral edge. Amazingreen suits an alert, purposeful daytime mood, with its green pepper and smoky accents giving the impression of nature pressing into an urban setting.
How to wear
Start with two sprays on the neck or forearms, leaving space for the leafy and mineral facets to unfold. Spring and mild summer weather suit its fresh green profile; on warmer days, apply lightly so the smoky gunpowder contrast remains an accent rather than the focus.
Who it’s for
For those who enjoy green fragrances but prefer leaves, pepper and mineral textures to citrus brightness or floral softness. It will particularly appeal to lovers of dry woody scents and unconventional accords who want freshness with a slightly industrial edge.
Release year
2012
The nose
Jean-Christophe Hérault is known for compositions that balance vivid natural references with precisely constructed modern accords; his notable work includes co-creating Creed Aventus. For Amazingreen, he approached greenness through the force of jungle vegetation, setting leafy freshness against flint, smoke and a recreated gunpowder effect.
Comme Des Garcons’s story
Comme des Garçons treats perfume as a medium for experimentation, often finding beauty in industrial materials, abstract textures and unexpected combinations. Its fragrances resist conventional gender categories. Amazingreen brings that approach to a familiar olfactory family, giving green freshness a mineral, explosive counterpoint.
Amazingreen’s concept
Asked to create a green fragrance, Hérault pursued the power of nature rather than a delicate pastoral scene, avoiding the usual emphasis on galbanum or citrus. He conceived vegetal and mineral strands running in parallel. Ivy recalled his childhood in Normandy, while green pepper, flint and a gunpowder accord supplied contrasting textures, refined by vetiver.
Extra info
The gunpowder note is a constructed accord, not literal gunpowder. Amazingreen won the Limited Distribution Men’s category at the 2013 Fragrance Foundation UK Awards despite its non-gender positioning. It also appeared in the late-2012 By the Sea collection, with bottles hand-painted by Sandra Korn.
