Wanna smell like an old Stradivarius or a posh French table? Didn’t think so.
Rosewood is the known go to for fine furniture and violin makers for centuries. But it has a sexy secret side: its amazing aroma. By distilling its oil we get a sweet, delicate woody scent. Lovingly mix that with the light greens of mango and neroli and, following feedback from our wonderful ådventurer members the amazing addition of dear old mary jane (that’s marijuana to you – ask yer dad). It now takes on a whole new degree of intoxicating ethereal sophistication.
Just like a beautifully played Ravel violin concerto. Well kinda.
All about this fragrance
Vibe check
Bårk suits the unhurried intimacy of an afternoon that stretches into evening: sleeves rolled back, conversation drawing closer. Its sweet wood and green fruit suggest softness, while the cannabis accord gives that softness a less conventional, quietly provocative edge.
How to wear
Try it first in mild spring or autumn weather, where the delicate wood and green fruit should feel balanced. Start with one or two sprays on the chest or forearms; warmer skin may bring the sweetness forward, so apply lightly in heat. Adjust the dose after experiencing its diffusion on your own skin.
Who it’s for
For those who like woody fragrances without a dry, austere feel, and fruit notes with a greener character. The cannabis accord will appeal to tastes that favor an unconventional twist over straightforward sweetness or polished formality.
Release year
2023
The nose
Simon Constantine is the founder and perfumer behind ånd fragrance. His work at Lush and Gorilla Perfumes established an unconventional approach that combines expressive compositions with a close interest in ingredients and their origins. Bårk brings those concerns together: Brazilian rosewood provides both its olfactory starting point and its conservation story.
Collaborators
The brand’s ådventurer members helped shape the composition through feedback that prompted the addition of a cannabis note to the rosewood, mango and neroli blend.
And Fragrance’s story
ånd treats perfume as a connection between creative expression, ecosystems and ingredient-producing communities. Its regenerative philosophy aims to go beyond reducing harm, supporting practices that benefit nature and treating Indigenous producers as partners rather than simply suppliers.
Bark’s concept
Finding a sustainably farmed source of Brazilian rosewood inspired Constantine to create Bårk and draw attention to illegal harvesting in the Amazon. The composition explores rosewood’s sweet, delicate aroma rather than its associations with furniture and instruments. Mango and neroli bring a green counterpoint, while member feedback led to the cannabis accord.
Extra info
The official spelling is Bårk. Beyond the spray fragrance, it is offered as a Tåg solid perfume in a container handcrafted from Ecuadorian tagua nuts, with a cap made from recycled drinks cans.
