Book | Bold
The bravado of Book | Balanced & Expressive's cedarwood and sandalwood woody essence is amplified with smoky, velvety musks. The herbaceous, dry wood lingers with a subtle smokiness for an inimitable signature trail.
This is the Bold version of Book, a powerful, room-filling rendition of its Balanced & Expressive counterpart, infused with deep, dark notes that’ll make your presence known. Also try Book | Personal and Book | Balanced & Expressive.
All about this fragrance
Vibe check
A late afternoon spent leafing through oversized books, with conversation carrying across a wood-lined room. Book | Bold takes that quiet, papery atmosphere and gives it a more assertive register: green edges, dry timber and a smoky trail that reaches beyond close conversation.
How to wear
The dense woods and smoky musk suit cooler weather, when their depth feels less imposing. Start with one spray on the torso and assess before adding another; this Bold version is designed for broad diffusion. In warm rooms or close quarters, keep application restrained so the green opening does not give way to an overwhelming woody cloud.
Who it’s for
For those who prefer dry, herbaceous woods to sweetness and want substantial projection. Its green violet character, sandalwood and smoky musk will appeal to lovers of textured woody fragrances who find intimate skin scents too restrained.

The nose
Jérôme Epinette created Book | Bold. Known for fragrances including Byredo Bal d’Afrique and Gypsy Water, he often pairs clearly defined ingredients with polished woody and musky textures. Here, he reinterprets Book’s library-inspired character with amplified green notes, earthy vetiver and smoky depth.
Commodity’s story
Commodity approaches modern American perfumery through minimalist design and straightforward concepts, with names such as Book, Milk and Paper. Its Scent Space system makes projection part of the choice: Personal stays close, Expressive offers balanced presence, and Bold amplifies the fragrance beyond the wearer.
Book | Bold’s concept
Book began with Ketrin Leka’s memories of childhood libraries and the New York Public Library: dry paper, turning pages and fresh air. For the Bold interpretation, Jérôme Epinette retained that starting point while amplifying eucalyptus and cedar with violet and earthy vetiver. Book+ joined Commodity’s Scent Space relaunch in 2021.
Extra info
The official name is Book+, with the plus sign identifying its Bold Scent Space. Commodity lists its fragrance concentration at 25%, compared with 15% for Book Expressive and 20% for Book Personal.
