Euan McCall is the perfumer behind Cape Wrath and co-founder of Edinburgh-based Jorum Laboratories and Jorum Studio. His work explores unusual botanical textures and contrasts between naturalistic impressions and abstract composition. Here, sharp green materials, resins and mossy marine notes give BeauFort’s coastal theme an austere expression.

Leo Crabtree, BeauFort London’s founder, provided creative direction for Cape Wrath, shaping its elemental coastal concept alongside perfumer Euan McCall’s composition.

Beaufort’s story

BeauFort London treats fragrance as storytelling, drawing on maritime history, memory and forces beyond human control. Founded by musician Leo Crabtree, the house favours forceful, unconventional compositions over universal appeal. Its name references the Beaufort wind-force scale; smoke and the tension between beauty and menace run through its identity.

Cape Wrath’s concept

Cape Wrath takes its name from Britain’s northwestern headland, a navigational landmark surrounded by treacherous waters. The name derives from an Old Norse term meaning “turning point,” not the emotion of wrath. Created for the Force Majeure collection, the fragrance evokes exposure to cold air, salt, seaweed and wind-carried angelica rather than a picturesque seaside retreat.

Cape Wrath was an Independent-category finalist at the 2025 Art and Olfaction Awards. Its official note pyramid pairs oakmoss absolute and seaweed with angelica root, mastic and frankincense, giving its coastal character a distinctly green, resinous foundation.
