DIA x MEG WEBSTER - Comme Des Garcons - Bloom Perfumery
DIA x MEG WEBSTER - Comme Des Garcons - Bloom Perfumery

This collaboration with Dia Art Foundation and American artist Meg Webster is an earthy, layered scent. Notes of geranium and frankincense sit on top of a mushroom accord that feels plucked from the dirt. Madagascar patchouli and sandalwood envelop green organic notes.

Meg Webster is best known for her sculptures composed of salt, earth, sand, and other natural materials, powerful statements built to disintegrate. The dramatic silver pyramid packaging is a work of art in itself, referencing Webster’s sculptural vocabulary.  The mirrored surface nods to ephemeral encounters with nature, while the bracketed pictogram emblazoned on the packaging references a motif from her early works.

All about this fragrance

Vibe check

It suits the quiet intensity of returning indoors after working among plants and damp soil. Geranium brings a green lift, while the mushroom accord and mineral woods retain an earthy edge: a presence that feels deliberate and tactile, more absorbed in its surroundings than dressed for display.

How to wear

Try it in mild or cool weather, when the green opening and earthy, resinous layers can be appreciated together. Start with one or two sprays on skin and let the mushroom accord and woods settle before adding more. A restrained application keeps the unusual soil-like character within conversational distance.

Who it’s for

For those drawn to vegetal, mineral and earthy fragrances rather than sweetness or polished florals. It will appeal especially to wearers who enjoy patchouli, resinous woods and unconventional accords, and who find the suggestion of soil and mushrooms compelling rather than challenging.

The nose

Emilie Coppermann is a French perfumer at Symrise, known for compositions that balance clarity with unexpected textures. Her work spans designer and niche perfumery, including The Different Company’s Sublime Balkiss. Here, she worked with Meg Webster and Christian Astuguevieille to translate an artistic brief into a layered composition of green, earthy and mineral elements.

Collaborators

American artist Meg Webster shaped the fragrance’s concept and participated in its evaluation and refinement, as well as developing the bottle and packaging. Comme des Garçons Parfums creative director Christian Astuguevieille helped guide the olfactory direction, supplying the initial samples and working with Webster and Emilie Coppermann. Dia Art Foundation served as the institutional collaborator throughout the project.

Comme Des Garcons’s story

Comme des Garçons approaches perfume as a medium for experimentation, often finding beauty in materials and sensations outside traditional perfumery. Abstract accords, unconventional contrasts and collaborations with artists allow each fragrance to express a distinct idea rather than follow a familiar luxury formula.

DIA x MEG WEBSTER’s concept

The project grew from Comme des Garçons’ longstanding relationship with Dia, with discussions coinciding with Webster’s exhibition at Dia Beacon. Her starting brief, “Forest. Rock. Soil. Flesh.”, guided a collaborative process of refinement. Rather than reproduce a particular sculpture’s smell, the fragrance evokes the bodily experience of her work with earth, salt, sand and living ecosystems.

Extra info

The bracketed pictogram references diagrams from Webster’s early sculptures. Its polished silver tetrahedral packaging draws on her geometric vocabulary, with changing reflections echoing perfume’s impermanence. The mushroom accord is built with myrrh, labdanum and tree moss absolutes rather than mushroom extract.
