Foul Play
For lovers of ball sports
and those who don’t play by the rules
Orange blossom absolute, leather and musk. A scent that flouts perfumery convention (no top or middle notes) - made solely of base notes.
Defies authority. Doesn’t conform. Plays for meaning, not for score. Leads from own path, with tender heart. Not here for likes. Not here for follows. Works Hard. Plays Harder. Hard to catch. Harder to forget.
All about this fragrance
Vibe check
The match is over, but the competitive energy remains. Foul Play suits that close, animated exchange at the edge of the court: leather and animalic warmth give it physical presence, while orange blossom and cypress keep the mood from becoming entirely dark.
How to wear
Start with one or two sprays on skin, giving the leather, musk and resinous materials room before adding more. Mild to cool weather is a natural fit for this woody weight; in heat or close quarters, use a lighter hand to keep its animalic character measured.
Who it’s for
For those drawn to animalic leather, resinous woods and floral materials with a less polished edge. Its unconventional structure will appeal to wearers who prefer direct, substantial compositions over sparkling openings or a neatly staged floral heart.

The nose
Craig Andrade is the founder and perfumer of The Raconteur. Following a career in law, he trained at the Grasse Institute of Perfumery and studied natural perfumery with Mandy Aftel. His work connects storytelling with a particular interest in Australian botanical materials. For Foul Play, he rejected a conventional top–heart–base narrative in favour of immediate contact with leather, orange blossom absolute and musk.
Raconteur’s story
The Raconteur is an Australian fragrance house that translates people, places, culture and landscapes into scent, with native botanical extracts central to its identity. Its fragrances are conceived, formulated and hand-poured in Australia, with gender-neutral storytelling that invites selection through emotional connection rather than prescribed labels.
Foul Play’s concept
Foul Play began with Andrade’s desire to bypass the usual progression from bright opening to floral heart and lingering base. Leather, orange blossom absolute and musk were to take centre stage immediately. The house describes this as an all-base-note composition, tying its structural rebellion to sporting rule-breaking and personal independence rather than a promise that the fragrance remains unchanged on skin.
Extra info
Foul Play includes buddawood, an Australian botanical highlighted by the house. Its sporting title also carries into playful ingredient descriptions such as “Criminal Coumarin” and “Misbehaving Musk”—wordplay that extends the rule-breaking concept.
