Perfumer: Jean Claude Ellena

One of the two fragrances created by Jean Claude Ellena to celebrate the history and craftsmanship of Grasse the cradle of modern perfume aesthetics and the royal floral couple of the region: jasmine grandiflorum and rosa centifolia.

Jasmin de Pays (the jasmine of the land) is a honeyed silky jasmine built around the most refined extract one can obtain: absolute. The grandiflorum variety historically is a Grasse specialty and has been part of the most iconic perfumes of the past and present. It is available on a very limited scale from the jasmine fields of the region.

The jasmine grandiflorum absolute is the physical tangible dimension Jasmin de Pays, but there is also the story that the perfumer wanted to tell with the formula:

“My devotion to jasmine lies with my childhood in Grasse. As a child, I used to harvest jasmine at dawn, picking the white porcelain flowers one by one, their smell was green, transparent and intoxicating. By noon, the last of the last white petals released a warm smell of orange blossom. By night, the forgotten flowers, now yellowed, emanated a happy, deep animalic fragrance. If its perfume was given rhythm by the time of day, then its nature never changed. Admiring this work of nature was my inspiration to imagine the perfume in a different way, to play with its elements and change its effects to make it unique and forever Jasmine. “

All about this fragrance

Vibe check

As conversation slows and people draw closer, its silky jasmine feels intimate rather than formal. Green floral edges keep the honeyed warmth from becoming sugary, while the deeper animalic facet lends an unguarded sensuality to the wearer’s presence.

How to wear

Try it in mild weather, when the green facets and honeyed floral warmth can sit in balance. Start with one or two sprays on skin and allow the jasmine to settle before adding more. In hotter conditions, a lighter application is a sensible starting point for its richer floral character.

Who it’s for

For those who enjoy jasmine as a living flower rather than a purely sweet floral accord. Its green nuances, honeyed texture, spicy accents and animalic depth suit a taste for expressive florals with softness but without excessive prettiness.

The nose

Jean-Claude Ellena is celebrated for transparent, economical compositions that suggest a vivid scene with relatively few materials. His work includes Terre d’Hermès, Cartier Déclaration and numerous fragrances in the Hermessence collection. In Jasmin de Pays, he brings that precise, evocative approach to a flower rooted in his childhood in Grasse, exploring jasmine’s green, warm and animalic facets.

Collaborators

Gian Luca Perris shaped the Grasse project’s creative brief, choosing the principal materials and inviting Jean-Claude Ellena to interpret them with creative freedom. His contribution connected the fragrance to the region’s perfumery heritage while leaving its olfactory expression to Ellena.

Perris Monte Carlo’s story

Perris Monte Carlo defines luxury through craftsmanship and the quality of its raw materials rather than ornament. Its approach combines traditional extraction knowledge with technological innovation, favouring compositions that give distinctive essences room to express their character.

Jasmin de Pays’s concept

Created alongside Rose de Mai for Les Parfums de Grasse, Jasmin de Pays celebrates the region’s flowers and perfumery craftsmanship. Ellena drew on childhood memories of picking jasmine at dawn, interpreting its passage from green, tender petals to warmer floral tones and the deeper, almost animalic scent of fading blossoms.

Extra info

The name means “jasmine of the land,” grounding the fragrance in its Grasse inspiration. Its official note pyramid places jasmine absolute at the top, clove and tagetes in the heart, and musks in the base.
