Year: 1992
Place: New York
Spirals of sandalwood smoke, love letters and curses, white chocolates in pockets, a moment of softness, razor-edged nails, tiered chandeliers, a glimpse of the moon high in the sky, a whisper on lips that turns into a 4am surprise.
All about this fragrance
Vibe check
The room is still moving, but the conversation has narrowed to two people leaning close over the coat-check counter. Cardamom and grapefruit give the sweetness a sharp edge; orris, white chocolate and sandalwood suggest a softer presence beneath the late-night bravado.
How to wear
Try it on cool evenings, when the white-chocolate sweetness and woody base can feel enveloping without competing with heat. Start with one or two sprays on skin beneath clothing for a more intimate effect; in warmer weather, apply lightly to keep the spicy citrus opening in balance with the richer heart.
Who it’s for
For those who enjoy gourmand touches within a woody composition rather than an overtly dessert-like fragrance. It suits a taste for powdery orris, creamy sandalwood and sweetness offset by citrus and spice.
Release year
2024
The nose
Jean-Charles Mignon.
Collaborators
Co-founder Jessie Willner originated the concept for Lola at Coat Check, shaping the character-led idea that became the fragrance’s creative starting point.
Discothèque’s story
Established between Los Angeles and London, Discothèque translates nightlife into fragrance through remembered atmosphere rather than literal nightclub smells. Its creative world centres on anticipation, shared euphoria and the dance floor as a meeting place for outsiders and insiders alike.
Lola at Coat Check’s concept
The fragrance imagines Nell’s nightclub in New York in 1992. Its central character, Lola, is a mysterious coat-check attendant who slips white chocolates into guests’ pockets to be discovered at 4 a.m. This fictional vignette sets soft sweetness against sandalwood smoke and the sharper edges of a night still unfolding.
Extra info
The glass-and-chrome bottle reinterprets a disco ball through angular edges and mirrored surfaces. Lola at Coat Check also exists as a matching candle, carrying the same imagined nightclub setting and official note pyramid.
