Rose de Taif Extrait - Perris Monte Carlo - Bloom Perfumery

Perfumer: Luca Maffei

The rarest of roses in perfumery: rose from the Taif area in Saudi Arabia. These flowers have their own unique aroma and most of the harvest stays in the country. Very few perfume houses ever get their hands on rose de Taif.

Perris did manage to secure the precious essence for their perfume and it was really worth making rose de Taif the main theme of the formula. Only a few other ingredients are used and used only to highlight the beauty of this rare perfume material.

The EdP option smells less metallic and more happy rose petals warmed by the sun (thank you lemon). Rose de Taif in the extrait concentration is more metallic leathery and heavier on geranium.

All about this fragrance

Vibe check

This is a rose for an evening when conversation slows and personal space narrows. Its metallic geranium edge gives the petals a composed, almost stern quality, while the leathery weight brings sensuality without sweetness becoming the main impression.

How to wear

Start with one spray on the torso or a pulse point, adding more only after the fragrance settles. Its dense rose and leathery texture make cooler weather a natural fit; warmth may make that richness feel more imposing. Restrained application keeps the floral detail readable at close range.

Who it’s for

For lovers of substantial rose fragrances who prefer metallic, green and leathery contrasts to soft, sweet petals. It suits a taste for assertive florals, prominent geranium and compositions that treat rose as a textured material rather than a delicate ornament.

The nose

Luca Maffei is an Italian perfumer associated with Atelier Fragranze Milano and a prominent voice in independent perfumery. His work combines classical structure with contemporary contrasts, moving between luminous florals and richer, textured compositions. In Rose de Taif Extrait, he gives the central rose a dense, assertive setting without losing its floral identity.

Collaborators

Gian Luca Perris, the house’s founder and creative director, helped shape the extrait project’s creative and material direction. He described the development as a rebalancing of existing fragrances with upgraded raw materials, pairing Taif rose essential oil with Bulgarian rose absolute for this composition.

Perris Monte Carlo’s story

Perris Monte Carlo places the perfume material itself at the center of luxury. Its approach combines carefully sourced natural ingredients, attention to extraction and respect for perfume-making traditions with an openness to new technology. Rose de Taif Extrait expresses that philosophy through a concentrated study of a rose and its geographical origin.

Rose de Taif Extrait’s concept

Rose de Taif Extrait emerged from a project to reinterpret four Black Collection fragrances, rather than simply increase their concentration. Taif rose essential oil and Bulgarian rose absolute form its central accord, with supporting materials chosen to keep the flower in focus. Its inspiration lies in the mountain-grown roses of Taif, translated here into a richer, more enveloping composition.

Extra info

Rose de Taif Extrait was a finalist in the Independent category of the 2016 Art and Olfaction Awards, not a winner. It is a distinct reinterpretation of the earlier Eau de Parfum, with rebalanced accords rather than concentration alone defining the change.
