Inspired by an Art Deco skyscraper and the paintings of Tamara de Lempicka, Tabac Rouge is a striking androgynous fragrance, conjuring up curling tendrils of incense and tobacco smoke. Turkish tobacco absolute is warmed by ginger and cinnamon, with a luxuriant hint of honey. Tabac Rouge dries down to a lush base of Siam benzoin and musk.

All about this fragrance

Vibe check

An unhurried evening conversation, close enough for the honeyed tobacco to register beneath the spice. Incense gives the sweetness a darker edge; the impression is tactile and composed, with the quiet drama of a sharply tailored jacket rather than overt display.

How to wear

Its warm tobacco, honey and benzoin suit cool weather, when the spicy sweetness feels enveloping rather than heavy. Begin with one or two sprays on skin and let the opening settle before adding more. In warm rooms, a lighter application keeps the smoky accord closer and less insistent.

Who it’s for

For those drawn to honeyed tobacco, resinous warmth and spices with a smoky edge. It suits a taste for plush, androgynous compositions in which sweetness adds texture without removing the darker character of tobacco and incense.

The nose

Anne-Cécile Douveghan.

Collaborators

Pierre Guillaume shaped the creative concept as Phaedon's artistic director, imagining the atmosphere of a New York penthouse and connecting its architectural drama with Art Deco and Tamara de Lempicka's paintings. Anne-Cécile Douveghan translated that vision into the fragrance.

Phaedon Paris’s story

Phaedon describes itself as a travelling perfumer, translating encounters with places, ancient cultures and botanical worlds into scent. Its aesthetic of baroque naturalism brings Mediterranean and Asian influences together with historical imagery and Art Deco, supported by in-house French manufacture.

Tabac Rouge’s concept

The starting point was an imagined penthouse high above New York, rather than the Turkish origin of its tobacco. Art Deco architecture and Tamara de Lempicka's paintings suggested a composition with relatively few, intensely expressive elements: tobacco and incense, heated by spices and softened with honey, benzoin and musk.

Extra info

Phaedon's English promotional page also uses the name Turkish Blend for Tabac Rouge. The house does not explain the chronology of the two names, so this should not be treated as a documented renaming.
