The following are some reasons why perfumes can become unavailable:

  1. Each year, the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) issues ever-stricter safety and allergen regulations. This affects quite a few classic formulas as well as niche compositions, and sometimes brands have to discontinue a perfume if they are unable to reformulate.
  2. The brand decides to change the concentration. For example, an eau de parfum is reformulated as an extrait, effectively turning it into a different perfume.
  3. The brand ceases operating. The creative director passed away, got bored, started a new project, sold the business, etc.
  4. The brand cannot keep up with logistics and production demands, with disruptions for up to a year. If there is no regular production and availability schedule, it is not viable for a stockist to carry the brand.
  5. The brand changed the distribution model, eg from niche to duty free.

Udbaha (Discontinued) - Byermia - Bloom Perfumery

“Udbaha” means “marriage” in Bangla, and this extrait references the Bangladeshi Holud Night celebration before the wedding. The festival is decorated with marigolds, roses and tuberoses. The aromas of festival sweets and treats fill the air: sugar, nuts, cardamom and saffron, mingling with oranges, pineapple and ripe mangoes. A spicy/earthy paste of turmeric and fenugreek is applied to the bride and groom’s body, enhanced by warm amber. And summoning the ceremonial application of henna, Bengal oud and oakmoss weaves a funky green trail through the proceedings. A deep and joyful perfume.

All about this fragrance

Vibe check

Udbaha suits an evening of close conversation in a room still fragrant with flowers and shared sweets. Its ripe fruit and spiced floral richness feel celebratory, while the earthy oud–oakmoss undertow brings a more intimate, sensual register beneath the brightness.

How to wear

Start with one light spray on skin and let the extrait settle before adding more. Its sweet spices, amber and woody depth suggest mild to cool weather; in warmth, use a lighter hand to keep the fruit and tuberose from feeling too dense. Applying beneath clothing is a good starting point for a more intimate effect.

Who it’s for

For those drawn to vintage-style woody florals with an earthy edge, rather than straightforward sweetness. Udbaha offers fruit and festive spices, but its fenugreek, oud and oakmoss make it especially appealing to wearers who enjoy green, textured compositions with a sensual undertow.

The nose

Ashek Zubayer is the perfume artist behind Byermia. His approach combines vintage inspiration with modern elements, emphasizing natural oud, floral absolutes and woods without restricting his palette to entirely natural materials. In Udbaha, he translates a Bangladeshi wedding celebration into a layered composition of flowers, fruit, spices and earthy woods.

Byermia’s story

Byermia is a Sydney-based family passion project owned and operated by Zannat Lamia, with fragrances composed by Ashek Zubayer. The house brings vintage sensibilities to contemporary artisanal perfumery, paying close attention to materials’ origins, species and extraction methods. Its emphasis is on complexity, handcraftsmanship and carefully sourced ingredients rather than an exclusively natural palette.

Udbaha (Discontinued)’s concept

Udbaha means “marriage” in Bangla and takes its inspiration from Holud Night, a Bangladeshi pre-wedding celebration. Floral decorations, fragrant sweets and ripe fruit meet the earthy spices of ceremonial turmeric paste. Bengal oud and oakmoss evoke the green, earthy character of henna, bringing depth to a composition conceived around joy, unity and lifelong commitment.

Extra info

Udbaha represents marriage within Byermia’s Epoch Series, alongside Ankura’s youth, Pushpak’s first love and Agrani’s leadership. Its ceremonial-paste accord brings turmeric and fenugreek into the same composition as tropical fruit and wedding flowers.
