White Rose - Floris - Bloom Perfumery

Originally created at the Jermyn Street shop by Mr John Floris in the early 1800s. Devoted wearers of the fragrance have included Florence Nightingale, and Lord Admiral Nelson is reported to have bought Floris White Rose for his mistress, Lady Hamilton.

White Rose is a classic take on a classic theme. This perfume is quite stately in its introvert elegance. Carnations meet a bouquet of other flowers and in the powdery mist of orris it's not quite possible to tell the fresh roses from spicy carnations.

All about this fragrance

Vibe check

White Rose suits a quietly formal afternoon, when conversation is unhurried and presence matters more than display. Its powder-soft flowers suggest pressed cotton and considered manners, while carnation lends a discreet spicy edge to the otherwise restrained impression.

How to wear

Start with one or two sprays on the neck or wrists to keep the powdery floral character measured. Mild spring weather and cooler days suit its balance of rose and carnation; in warmer conditions, apply lightly so the orris and musk remain a soft backdrop rather than the main impression.

Who it’s for

For those drawn to traditional floral perfumery, powdery iris textures and rose compositions with a spicy carnation accent. Its appeal lies in restraint and a softly dressed bouquet rather than sweetness or a sharply isolated rose note.

Floris’s story

Floris balances family continuity and British craftsmanship with contemporary fragrance creation. Its Jermyn Street heritage and inherited formula books inform a practice that combines natural ingredients with high-quality synthetic materials, treating tradition as a working resource rather than a fixed formula.

White Rose’s concept

Created by Mr John Floris at the house’s Jermyn Street shop in the early nineteenth century, White Rose belongs to its longstanding floral tradition. The current fragrance has been refreshed for the modern era, while retaining the interplay of soft flowers, carnation spice and powder that defines its character.

Extra info

Despite its name, White Rose is a multi-floral composition: jasmine and violet join rose and iris at the heart, with carnation adding spice. The current Eau de Toilette is labelled vegan.

Celebrity connection

Florence Nightingale wore White Rose and received bottles during the Crimean War. Floris preserves a letter in which she thanked Mr Floris for fragrant gifts.
