In amongst the botanical collections and wonders of a Victorian glasshouse often found is the Orchid; one of many botanical rarities that for decades was the jewel and marvel of many an Edwardian and Victorian botanical explorer.

Ophrys is a summery botanical potion of great standing, with green aromatic and floral undertones that capture daring romantic notions of an era gone by, a love for exploration, discovery and the classical splendour of the English garden in bloom one balmy late summer afternoon. Here we present to you an ode to the great Plant Hunters of yesteryear.

The rose in Italian is “la rosa”. Reverse the perspective, come at it from a different angle, go right to left, and you get “Asoral”. This extrait burrows into the very essence of a young, dewy-petalled rose, taking you on a journey from the outside world to the inner you. This is achieved with a union of Turkish rose and Rosa Lani, a complex rose with vibrations of liquorice, tea and hay. Creamy magnolia, rosy-esque peony and soft musks add even more plushness, elevating Asoral to a radiant smile-bringer.

California is a land of abundance: sunshine, flowers and fruits. The fragrance is a sunny swirl of magnolia, apples and lemons, all of which flourish in this west coast wonderland. Sandalwood and musk bridges the flora to the skin, turning you into a delivery system for smiles.

I was inspired while visiting Kew Gardens in London in May. Every May there are hundreds of blooming magnolia trees in different sorts, sizes, scents and colours. Usually it is a very rainy season and my inspiration was to create a scent of the water and rain on magnolia trees.  

The symbol of this modern perfume is an American modern dance pioneer Ruth St. Denis. She is not only a very talented performer, but also very feminine. 

Divine Dancer is an ethereal, watercoloured, light, fresh, feminine floral perfume. It is modern and vivacious fruity floral scent .

The Divine Dancer perfume is dedicated to one of the first American modern dance and ballet performers Ruth St. Denis.

Her vibrant and spirited art of dance, influenced by the East and South Asia, her divine body move and incredible costumes made Ruth St. Denis a worldwide well known star. Her body projects as Temple of femininity. 

When the dancer emerged from the darkness of the stage, her presence was immediately captivating, the air suddenly fragrant with her appearance. Adorned in jewels from head to toe, radiant in a special gold sari, her hair crowned in jasmine, she is an embodiment of divine feminine, mirroring the images of goddesses of Lakshmi and Saraswati but with the talented Ruth St. Denis touch of modern dance and ballet movement.

Within the grand halls of the Tang dynasty, a solitary dancer, Yuyi, steps into the light. Her grace feels almost celestial, a fragment of heaven quietly descended into the mortal world. One dance is enough to captivate an entire city. Celestial Robe traces her steps with this fougere, starting with the zesty opening movement: tart orange, lemon and rhubarb, with pine and grapefruit adding sharpness and clarity. Galbanum underscores the green aspects, as a bouquet of woods (cedarwood and guaiac wood) and plush musk and ambergris round off the choreography.

Perfumer: Fanming Meng

This “divine flower” is a luminous, untamed floral that captures the serenity of nature in motion. It starts bright and light: lemongrass and passion fruit, opening up to peony and lily of the valley. Watery, ethereal cyclamen drenches the richness of jasmine, ylang-ylang and narcissus like dew over a meadow. The drydown is green, a mingling of eucalyptus and sage with peppermint, juniper and pine, grounded by 
Mysore sandalwood and a hint of vanilla bourbon.

Mandarin and cassis spill out of this cornucopia of dew-dappled fruity florals. Soft-focus peach, magnolia, violet and jasmine glow against a gentle base of cedarwood and musk.

Hanamizake refers to drinking Japanese sake underneath the cherry blossom trees while petals slowly flutter into your cup. The aroma of cherry blossoms and ginjo sake dances tipsily into the last musk note, summoning this serene hanami (cherry blossom viewing) experience.

All listed notes were subjected to an upcycling extraction process. What previously would be discarded was distilled again.

According to ELdO this is their Secretion Magnifiques which grew up and use the power of shock and eccentricity to draw attention to really important matters: environment and ethical consumption.

Upcycled or zero-waste notes in I am trash: rose neo-absolute, apple essense, Atlas cedarwood, sandalore, akigalawood, iso-e-super...

The resulting fragrance is a very pleasant perfume abstraction in which fruity vibes meet gently floral hints before going transparent woody. But still beware of Etat Libre d’Orange also mischievously revisiting the salty messy splutter of Secretions Magnifiques now and then in this formula.

The Sniff on I am Trash by Etat Libre d'Orange:

"[it] opens with the most beautiful and realistic apple note and it’s an utter delight. This apple smells really ripe, outdoorsy and fresh. When smelling it we were immediately transported to an allotment, picking up windfalls which are a bit battered and bruised in places but still mostly fine. I Am Trash smells like real apples resplendent with imperfections, rather than the perfect, sterile, waxy cold-storage apples you can buy in supermarkets which barely smell of anything at all."
